Exit: Pursued By A Bear is the Cork based quintet that during 2010 received many plaudits from some of the countries most respected music commentators both nationally & regionally. The quintet is made up of Tadhg Hickey, Philip Lambert, Brian Lane, Paul O'Driscoll and Eoin O'Sullivan. "Pish" was the stand out track when released in April 2010 that caught the attention of Dan Hegarty (RTE 2FM), Paul McLoone (Today FM) and others. Exit: Pursued By A Bear's sound is fresh and unique. The band's attention to production detail expanded to the videos for both "Pish" and "Amédée" also in 2010, being described as art house, thought provoking and in parts 'disturbing' (in a good way!) by some.
The band's album account will be opened on 4th February with the arrival of Exit: Pursued By A Bear's anticipated debut. The band will celebrate the release of the 'self-titled' debut with a gig in Crane Lane, Cork on Saturday 5th February (9pm) with dates also being cemented for later this spring for Dublin and other locations – watch this space!
Having released two very favourably received EPs since 2005 and a single "The Wine She Drinks" which peaked at No 2 in the download chart, Exit: Pursued By A Bear (E: PBAB), opened its 2010 commercial release account with "Pish" in April. The Cork-based band followed this with their debut EP "Amédée" in October 2010 both of which were heavily supported by a very discerning collective at radio & print media levels (both national in the form of Paul McLoone of Today FM and 2FM's Dan Hegarty together with RTE Radio 1's John Creedon and also a wide range of Independent stations including Phantom in Dublin and many others nationwide.
The EP was a taster for the band's forthcoming self-titled debut album. RTE 2FM's Dan Hegarty said of "Amédée" 'it was one of the best EP's released in 2010' – very welcome praise indeed!
Invitations to participate in The Green Room Sessions on The Paul McLoone show (Today FM) and to record The Fr Matthew Sessions for RTE 2FM's Dan Hegarty & other invitations quickly followed the EP's service.
In parallel to the release of "Pish" last spring, the band also wrote and performed the soundtrack for musical play "Hoodwinked" (by Helen Kavanagh-Ronan) in which lead singer Tadhg (Hickey) also acted. The play undertook a mini tour this spring where performances included The Pavilion Cork and a special performance at Dublin's Button Factory. With the release of "Amédée the band were ambushed, in a very very good way!!.. with requests to record some of the cream of sessions from media peeps who had already gone on record some time back as being supporters of E:PBAB's very fresh and individual sound. Visits to Today FM for the Paul McLoone 'Green Room' sessions and The Fr Matthew Sessions for RTE 2FM's Dan Hegarty were included in these.
Already being hailed for performances, in the band's relative youthful life to date, on Hard Working Class Heroes festivals, IMRO showcases, Murphy's Live, The Spiegeltent and TV shows such as the The Once A Week Show. E: PBAB still apologize in some ways to this writer for being too philosophical or the science there of!! The band' site "the philosophy thing seems to be a preoccupation for all of us", they continued, "It's a fairly nerdy band, we think there are only about 10 degrees between us all" – love it! It is this very take on life and the actions in it 'as they see it' that makes E: PBAB so special

Exit: pursued by a bear are like a stubborn old couple; why not call them herself and himself. Himself has just settled into his armchair for yet another night of uninterrupted staring at herself. There is no radio or television to break the tension. The atmosphere is heavy, their thought processes, unwholesome. They sit brooding at each other suspended between a rancorous past and a future that has nothing to offer but the promise of an elusive end point. All that binds them together is a shared desire to not be the one to give in. They are the unlucky recipients of a malevolent board game that appears to be inherently irresolvable. No winners, no losers. They are destined to play on indefinitely in the volatile silence, faces blank, eyes locked.
Exit: pursued by a bearcount political and social satirists and expositors of sin, William Langland and Dante Alighieri as influences as well as the life and times of Jesus of Nazareth, James Joyless and other handsome radicals. The music, which began as a direct response to a series of uncomfortable silences and lulls in conversation has become the soundtrack to an investigation of the human condition. Every time the group meets it feels like a landmark in thinking, let alone music. Exit: pursued by a bear ring their collective tongue around the circumference of human experience, cleansing the anima and drowning the persona.
The group have attracted interest from A and R people (Amish and Rastafarians) from both home and abroad, but are presently cautious about erecting any specific cultural or religious flag to their metaphorical mast. In short, the group are not quite ready to lay themselves bare.
